THE PUMPKINS ARE HERE!!!

The pumpkins have arrived to your local pumpkin patch. Oodles, and ooooodles of pumpkins - big ones, small ones, white ones, green ones, orange ones, ones for pie, oh, the list goes on and on.

Stop in to see us, in Berwyn, Elmhurst, Naperville (on Chicago Ave.), Skokie, Westmont, or Willowbrook, and we will send you home with a FREE mini pumpkin (see coupon below).

In addition to the pumpkins & gourds, we have a bountiful selection of outdoor, autumn and Halloween decorations. We have mums in all sizes and colors, fall flowering cabbages & kale, pansies, hay bales (in 3 sizes), corn stalks, Indian corn, ready-made scarecrows, and more!

Build a Scarecrow

New for 2008, we are having a "Build A Scarecrow Party." Yes, you bring your old clothes for stuffing, and we will provide the straw filling. There will be hot cider, snacks, and fun & games for the kids!

Clover's Garden Girl's Pumpkin Butter Recipe

1. Quarter one pie pumpkin, and clean out seeds and guts (the gooey stuff).
2. Boil pumpkin meat and rind for 20 to 30 minutes until meat becomes soft and separates from the outer rind.
3. Remove pumpkin from boiling water and peel rind from the meat.
4. Place pumpkin meat and 1 cup of water in large pot on low temperature, and mash the pumpkin with a potato masher.
5. Increase heat to medium-high, and add (mixing well and bringing to a boil):
2 cups sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 slice of crystallized ginger (chopped fine)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
6. Continue to cook over medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring to avoid burning mixture to the bottom of the pot.
7. Place mixture in blender in small batches, and puree until smooth.
8. Can or store in jars in refrigerator.

This recipe makes approximately 40 oz. of pumpkin butter, so, why not get two pumpkins and double the recipe for gift giving?
